We were not good at boundaries.

For a long time, we thought boundaries were something other people had.

  • Healthy people.

  • Confident people.

  • People who somehow knew how to say no without feeling guilty for three business days afterward.

We thought boundaries were cold. We thought they were selfish. We thought they pushed people away.

What we are slowly learning is that healthy boundaries do the opposite. They allow us to stay connected without abandoning ourselves.

The problem is that many of us understand boundaries in theory and completely freeze when it comes time to say them out loud.

We know we need limits.

We just don’t know what those limits sound like in a real conversation.

  • Especially when someone is upset.

  • Especially when someone needs something.

  • Especially when guilt enters the room.

This is where scripts become useful.

Not because they give us perfect words, but because they give us a starting point.

Think of these scripts as training wheels. You won’t need them forever. But they can help while you’re building the skill.
